Wireless Data "The Easy Way"

Bill Dame, Manager, Switching & Transmission
bdame@engineeringassociates.com

AMPS providers are familiar with the relatively high cost associated with providing wireless data, and customers are well aware of their costs to use it. However, for applications that require relatively small amounts of data to be transmitted, such as GPS, alarm and event monitoring, and telemetric applications, there is a much more economical answer. Several companies have developed a technology for transmitting small amounts of data over the existing cellular infrastructure by inserting data into certain fields of a registration message. This data is then transmitted over the reverse control channel back to the base station, and then via SS7 back to the application provider.

Various studies have shown just how under-utilized overhead channels are. Therefore, this technology translates to value added services for you and your customers. There's no need to worry about voice channel congestion. This method of transmission uses minimal or no voice channel activity at all. Best of all, because the only cost to the provider is the manpower to provide MIN range translations and SS7 connection charges, these companies provide all administration and billing of the system.

So just sit back and collect your monthly check or actively participate in the marketing of this service in your network, the choice is yours.
